The Yellow Wall-Paper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
4.0
Read years ago but had to read again when I stumbled across it. It’s such a thought provoking short story that masterfully unravels the theme of mental health and the descent in to “madness” and societal oppression. It’s eerie, atmospheric and remains a powerful critique of gender roles. CPGs use of first-person narrative really draws you into the protagonist’s deteriorating mind and her rich use of symbolism and a haunting conclusion make it a profound read. Classic for a reason.
