Cruel Beginnings by Lili St. Germain, Amelia Queen
5.0
Of all things holy - I need a serious cleanse after reading this book. This one is dark, and I mean...DARK. This book was deliciously good, and I could not put it down. Also - welcome back, Lyra Parish. I've missed your work!!!
Cruel Beginnings is book 1 of the Cruel World series, and it is chopped full of danger, suspense, gritty darkness, intensity, and jaw-dropping twists and turns. The level of violence and just nastiness is on a whole new level, and I was all over it. Readers are introduced to Birdie and Darius, two souls just full of heartache, but they become intertwined in this world of a secret society filled with ruthlessness. No matter what life throws at Birdie, she never stops fighting and is a force to be reckoned with. Darius is the typical alpha male; dark, handsome, dominating, controlling, and cruel. The heated scenes are scorching, and I fell for Darius as he slowly opened himself up to Birdie. The twists at the end ripped me to shreds. It was such a blow that I had to recuperate a bit after, and as much as I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers, this one stung. Now I desperately need book 2.
I highly recommend it if you're a fan of genuinely dark romance with twists and turns. This book contains triggers, so please read them before diving in. Enjoy!
