A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

5.0

The characters got polished up quite a bit; they gained a lot of depth! I must say I enjoyed this book equally as much as the first. If not more.

Delilah "There is no such things as too many knives" Bard especially grew a lot. And I enjoyed the fact that 'romance' was not at all central in this book. It was subtle, and didn't get in the way of the plot. It just had a very mature feeling to it. That makes this series especially enjoyable.

Kell himself, turned out to have far more darker thoughts than before, which made him seem very human to me. Both he and Rhy had very natural responses to their situation. And I must say, I noticed Kell cutting his hand for blood magic a lot less than in book 1.
But that ending. That ending.

SpoilerI think most of the people would expect Holland to come back. He never really had a 'dead' feeling to him. And he's far too usable for plot purposes to get rid of him this early. But it's sad that he didn't get a lot of page-time.

Overall, to me, this was a book about Delilah. More specific, for her magic to grow and get used in order to prepare for the events in book 3. Still looking forward to when it comes out, though!
