The Wild Inside, Volume 1: A Novel of Suspense
by Christine Carbo
I thought this book was fine. I’m giving it a hopeful 3 stars for potential, although in all honesty I would give it 2.5. The first 100 pages are so were incredibly hard to get through. I found the narrator insufferable and odd and couldn’t connect with him at all or with his metaphors like “the shadow of a fish.” I kept reading because I - like probably most everyone - wanted to know what the heck happened to Victor. I was proud of myself for solving the whodunnit well before it was officially revealed, and I was more or less satisfied with the ending. I would continue the series if gifted another book, but I’m certainly not running out to buy one.
One thing I almost forgot: unlike the author, I was not impressed with the editing. The sheer amount of egregious typos drove me up a wall.
