Bit slow at times but kept my interest. Not a single likable character to be found though, which always dampens my enjoyment of a book. I do think I would’ve gotten more out of it if I had more background knowledge about the Spanish Inquisition - I don’t know that Bardugo gives us enough context at times. This was my first book by this author and I enjoy her writing style, though I can see why others might not.

Kinda curious what was hinted at with the playwrite? I feel like I missed something there. Also didn’t love the end - seems more like an eternal purgatory than any kind of happily ever after. Not that this story needed a happily ever after, but I think a definitive tragic ending would’ve served it better.
