I Choose Myself by Deepti Vempati
3.0
2.5, rounded up. I wanted to like this book so much; I was a huge fan of Deepti on her show, and did enjoy the behind-the-scenes glimpses into the show. However, those chapters were thin and glossed over. While I understand that was probably intentional—she obviously wants her story to be bigger than the just her time in Love is Blind—the truth is, the show is what drove interest in her. She explains in the most minimal terms her and Shake’s relationship, while glossing over other parts. For example, she says they both knew neither would say yes at the alter but there is no description of when that conversation took place, or how they decided to handle it. She then contradicts herself, saying Shake was disappointed that he wasn’t chosen…yet if they knew the other was saying no, why be taken aback?
I still admire the woman she has become, and I am glad she’s using her platform in such a positive way, but this one didn’t live up to her thoughtful and articulate responses on the show.
