Beyond the Wand by Tom Felton

4.0

I was hesitant to read this book out of fear that it would taint my precious memories of the wizarding world. Also the color and font choices on the cover scared me a little bit.

It was a huge relief to hear that Tom’s experience on set was filled with just as much magic and mentors as Harry’s time at Hogwarts. While I did eat up the little stories from the HP set and thorough breakdowns of Tom’s relationship with each of his costars, the last chapters, where Tom relays his experiences with loneliness and mental health struggles in LA, were what really struck me. He’s vulnerable about what happened while not trying to distract from the privilege he’s experienced alongside the trouble.

This story had everything I could have wanted from such an iconic character from my childhood, including the honest details of growing up under the spotlight.

Still don’t love the cover but the whole thing is worth reading for his reasoning for why he hasn’t rewatched any of the HP films. Trust me.
