I was never forced to read this book in school, so I thought I should see what hype was about. In the end, it was about what I figured it would be about. If you’ve spent any amount of time with a group of feral little boys, what goes on in this book isn’t really all that surprising. I like that the author doesn’t shy away from gruesome details. Yes, I get the metaphors for society and the human condition to form rank and file, and fight and conquer, but really it was just a bunch of boys on an island. Which is fine. The book was ok, a quick little read with some good prose to digest.
