The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson

4.0

This felt so different from the original trilogy, aka era 1, that it could almost be a different sub-genre all together.

Where era 1 would be epic high fantasy with the page count to match, this felt more like a fast-paced urban fantasy along the lines of The Dresden files with a whip-smart MC and a magical mystery plot peppered with plenty of action scenes.

Of course, it’s not set on earth so I guess technically it’s still high fantasy regardless. It’s set 300 years after Mistborn era one and the ways Sanderson peppered things like place names and mythology based on everything we know from that first trilogy was really fun. Like we were privy to things that this generation assumes are just myths,
Spoilerincluding mistborns themselves lololololol

Different but fun, I really enjoyed it, but would like to make a deeper emotional connection to the characters, hopefully in the next one.
