Some of the passages in this book captured so well the emotions of relationships, of pressing at pain to see if it's still there, of human nature. The ending was a little too happy a little too quickly, and the main character and narrator is hard to grasp; the uncomplicatedness of death is really made clear, just how it's written about in the novel, how old hurts and grudges and betrayals are smoothed down and put aside in the face of someone dying in front of you. Will I forget my qualms, if I have them, when I'll be on my deathbed? She acted in a selfish way and didn't seem to understand the extent of how much she'd hurt people; but her father and James were also forgiving her, in time, but without inviting her back into their lives. Very complicated, I feel conflicted.
