Serendipitously ended up reading this right around Juneteenth. A very apt book to read for that holiday.
This was a super unique story, and I’m so fascinated by the story of its conception and the “telephone” game that was played to get us here.
Often very beautiful writing. I will say I was kind of confused at the beginning of each chapter trying to figure out whose perspective I was receiving and when in time we were. On reflection, that might just mirror the way memories come back to the historians, which, if purposeful, is actually quite cool. If not purposeful, having names under the chapter header might’ve been convenient :)
