Strange Gods by Alison Kimble

4.0

The author reached out to me and offered for me to read her debut novel, Strange Gods. The story begins with a young girl named Spooky who is currently located at a strict juvenile camp, who sneaks out of her bunk and just a happenstance she gets teleported to a land of a very strange creature who claims to be a God. And the journey that she goes through really changes her for the better in my opinion. I really enjoyed the character development for her, the arc was believable for her growth at the end. When learning that her name “Spooky” was actually a nickname I was relieved yet the name did draw me from the story sometimes. I feel like this book is targeted for the youngest YA readers, it read very middle grade to me. There was some slight horror aspects that were interesting but creepy, not something I usually read. I am curious to see if there would be a sequel with how the book ended. I give it a 4/5 stars
