Persuasion by Jane Austen

5.0

RE-READ: July 2022

Although only re-reading this a few months back, I was inspired to read it again after watching the new adaptation in netflix. Love the book, hate the adaptation.

RE-READ: March 2022

After finishing all of Austen’s novels in the last few years, I stand by thinking this might be my favourite. This was just as fun and enjoyable reading the second time as it was the first. Persuasion really is Austen at her best.

4.5/5 stars

This is definitely a change from the books that I have read so far this year. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed this read, actually much more than I was expecting to. This is only my second Austen book and I forgot about how witty and entertaining her prose is. I alternated between reading this via audiobook and physically, and it was just such an entertaining read. I was smiling continuously and was fully engaged in the book. I admit that I don't actually read many classics and often find them overwritten, but this was such a fun read that I'm actually really looking forward to read more Austen. Especially since Persuasion is one of Austen's less known and spoken about novels, I am looking forward to reading more from her. Having only read the well-beloved Pride and Prejudice before, I actually think that this book is better (controversial, I know). It was funny in a mature sort of way, full of longing and with such biting wit.
