Vladimir by Julia May Jonas

5.0

Whoa. What a gorgeous debut from Julia May Jonas. The first half is an intense character study of an English professor at a liberal arts college as she grapples with her marriage, aging, and the arrival of a new and talented couple to their small academic community. The second half is a taut and completely unpredictable thriller that was slightly campy at times but ultimately left me floored. If you are a fan of unlikeable characters and academic settings you will find much to dissect in Vladimir. Go read this one ASAP! (Oh, and happy publishing day!)
