Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward
4.0

Currently rereading this after years. I remember having fond memories of Phury and Cormia’s romance, and overall being surprised by how much I liked their story. But now that I’m reading their chapters only, skipping all the other POVs, I’m realizing how little we get of them in the book. Few interactions, few meaningful conversations… most important moments actually happen when they are separated and thinking about their situation… I’m 65% in so I hope things pick up between them.

So much is clearly happening in the side story with the whole Lash subplot and everything going on with Qhuinn, John, Blay and even Rehv. It seems like most plot is reserved for them while we get mostly dramatic musings from the main couple. I guess in this book we already get a glimpse of what the middle part of this series will become with the odd pacing and infinite pov… just disappointed that I remembered it different.

Also, why is no one actually trying to help Phury when he is struggling so much with his mental health, addiction and literally no will to live? I thought the Brothers were basically a family… and yet it seems like no one gives a shit about Phury this entire book. Even Z saying they are all washing their hands off him. Like, I’m sorry, when has Phury ever been anything but a good friend to y’all. Like, Z got more support through his hardships with Bella, even when people thought he was killing humans for sport and had no soul. But Phury actually struggling while still being a good egg, and no, no one cares about him.
