Where did the hype come from? Why is this a 4.3 average and so many people are saying it's character driven? The plot is all that matters, and the one-dimensional characters are only there to hold it up. It had some interesting twists and turns, but I had so many issues with this. I only finished it because I spent money on it. In no particular order:
  • 2-page chapters that chop up the flow and end with constant cliffhangers
  • Not enough dialogue or detail. It's like the author was baiting the reader, and not in a good way. Especially around some major plot points. You can't just let us guess at what happened and hope we got it right!
  • Extremely slow first half. Would have been a dnf if I hadn't bought it.
  • Wayyyy too many coincidences to suspend disbelief. Come on now.

Whoever told me if I liked Kristen Hannah, I'd love this book...you're dead to me.
