House of Furies by Madeleine Roux

2.0

The cover of this book provides way too much hype for what the story is actually about which is sad because it looked so enticing! (yes, I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but have your looked at it!).

I was very excited about this book thinking that I would be spooked just by just reading it or jumping around my house because of an odd noise here and there, but I wasn’t. The writing alone was difficult to read because the author was trying to set an ambiance about this world and the individuals, but sometimes it was just difficult to read through it smoothly and the story was just bland. I would say that there was maybe 3 times where the book truly grabbed my attention but then it just fell completely flat.

There could have been so much more to this story, but I felt the author hit a wall several times while writing this and couldn’t exactly put themselves into the story. Now don’t get me wrong the story and idea around this book isn’t bad it just doesn’t reach that breaking point into good or amazing. It feels as though the author wanted to tell more about the background on the unworld then actually providing a story or what I call a “show” while you read the material. I found that I was more interested in the journal entries than the main point of the character. The author tried to end the book in a cliff hanger, but it really didn’t want me wishing there was more it actually had me wondering how there could be more.

I also don’t get the point of wasting several pages on pictures. I feel like those extra pages could have been added to bring more to the story.
