Goodnight Punpun, Vol. 2 by Inio Asano
4.0
dark funny reflective sad slow-paced

"Punpun wasn't sure what Komatsu was talking about. But he wondered why it was wrong to want everyone to be happy. 'I wonder if everyone thinks differently than I do...' The thought made him very afraid."

"To those looking up at him, Punpun was just a piece of lint or something else too insignificant to notice. Punpun was brave, so that was okay with him. But then why did the tears keep coming?"

The first volume didn't really hook me but I'm happy to say this one did! The story moves along more smoothly now that Punpun's story is alternating with his uncle Yuichi's. Yuichi is a depressed, miserable, pretty much reprehensible guy, and, well, I find those kinds of characters interesting. I also found it interesting to follow Punpun's attempts to calibrate his moral compass in the absence of any adult guidance.

So far, this series kinda reminds me of the anime Welcome to the NHK as well as the film All About Lily Chou-Chou in terms of tone and some of the characterization. I plan to keep reading.
