League of Liars by Astrid Scholte, Astrid Scholte

*this arc was sent to me by the publisher to get an honest review in return*

This was a good book which is about four teens who are charged with murder and illegal use of magic who band together to break free. I really enjoyed this fantasy jail escape book. It's kind of like Money Heist but it's own way. The storyline was very well done and the pacing was great. I was hooked into the story from the first chapter but let's say that it didn't make all of it's promise through the end. Some parts of the writing just wasn't for me. I enjoyed the multiple povs but I have to say that the dialogue wasn't intriguing. I felt that the worldbuilding could have been better but if we are getting a second book then it is fine because we will see development.

This book is written from Cayder, Jey, Elenora and Leta's pov. I won't describe each and every character as my review would be very long. Sadly I didn't feel connected to these characters or felt somehow attached to them but they did have character developments in the book. Were they the best, eh but it was still there and noticeable. There weren't as many side characters as I was hoping for in this mystery fantasy book but there were some great ones. There was romance in this book but it was more towards the ending with an enemies to lovers trope with .5/5 level of steaminess.

With the ending, I'm honestly confused. I don't know if there will be a second book because there are so many questions left unanswered and open ended which I wasn't happy about as it's a mystery/thriller. So I rated this book three stars as I'm confused on how I feel about it. I liked it but also I felt a little meh about it. Like there were twists and turns but some parts of the writing wasn't it for me. I think most readers will enjoy this book if they love Six of Crows and Money Heist but if you hate having questions unanswered then I would recommend waiting until you hear a sequel.
