Meritropolis by Joel Ohman

I didn't really care for this book - I felt that the characters were weak and one-dimensional and many of the events in the book were borderline dei ex machina...
Spoiler examples: Charley meets the mob boss who instantly reveals important information to the main character, Charley (a teenager with no formal fighting training) attacks four guards and takes them out, and instead of being punished by "the System" he is given an important job, all of the characters that Charley meets besides Olsen are actually very against the System, etc..)

The ending was pretty weak and it bothered me that the main antagonist basically changed on the last couple of pages.

I also didn't like the characterization of Abigail. She detests fairy tales because they show women as weak and unable to help themselves, but she attaches herself to whatever man she thinks will be in charge.

The moral of the book also had been questioning how much I liked the story. While it can be seen as a pro-disability book, it could also be viewed as being pro-life.

Despite its shortcomings, it was a quick read that had me wondering what would happen next.
