4.5/5 stars!
Lovely, lovely story. I liked each of the main characters separately and together. The banter was top notch, A+++++. I had tears. There were many moments were I felt like I was or had been January. Again I say...truly lovely.
The half star was taken away for two reasons.
1) No matter how well written it is, I am not a fan of single person POV in a romance novel. A romance novel can be about many, many things but when it all boils down it should be a story of two people coming together. When I don't get the other person's perspective I feel that I've lost something and can't totally, fully engage.
2) ***Spoiler I guess?***
At the end when Gus's cheating ex comes back and says she wants to get back together? And he's standing in the rain telling this to January? And he says that he had to come home and really think about the offer and that he could see himself forgiving her and being with her again??? What the fuck is that? Beyond her CHEATING on him, he'd also made it clear that the love he felt for her was a separate and detached type of love. Which she clearly didn't do much to change when she cheated with his best man and left him on his birthday. And then he reconnects with January, finds a person who truly accepts him as he is, wants to know him, wants to share herself with him and YET. AND YET. He can still see himself forgiving his ex and getting back together with her?? It doesn't compute for me. Forgiving her? Sure! Possibly even choosing to have a friendly acquaintance and being a supportive person in her life? Yeah okay, sure! He never met January and decided to get back together with her? Ok! BUT...still considers it even after having gotten to the place he was with January. Hell to the naw. I'm clearly still heated about it :)
Overall, loved it and will keep an eye out for this author's future stories <3
