Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough

4.0

This is a fun book about 17 year old Tamsin Greene. All her life, she’s lived as an outcast in her own family. At her birth, her grandmother declared Tamsin was going to be one of the strongest witches ever born. The only problem is, Tamsin never displayed any of the family Talent. But when a handsome professor mistakes her for her older, and very talented sister, Tamsin finds herself agreeing to find a family heirloom for him. Unfortunately, that heirloom could unleash a power that could destroy everything.

Tamsin is a very believable character with all the angst that goes with being a teenager, along with the issues of not fitting in with your own family. There’s romance, time travel, magic, and mystery all wrapped together in a neat little package. Though you know who the bad guy is from the beginning, it doesn’t detract from the story. There is a satisfying end that ties everything together, and yet, lets you know there will be more to come from Tamsin – the perfect type of serial book. Not a series, exactly, but one that can easily have a sequel. I look forward to more from this talented author.
