Review: The Inmate by Freida McFadden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
The Inmate is my first book by Freida McFadden, and I picked it up after seeing her trending and becoming curious about her writing style. The story follows Brooke Sullivan as she returns to her hometown and begins working in a prison where past connections and secrets resurface, creating suspense and tension throughout. While the book kept me guessing, it also felt somewhat predictable at times, with clues laid out throughout the story.
Tim Reese stood out as my favorite character because of his genuine, kind nature, and the other characters were well-developed, complex, and believable. McFadden’s writing is easy to read, the pacing is steady, and the dialogue felt natural, which made the story engaging from start to finish. Even though I felt like something was missing—perhaps a bigger plot twist or additional perspectives—the book still delivered a compelling psychological thriller experience. Overall, The Inmate is a gripping, thoughtful read that will appeal to fans of suspense and character-driven mysteries, and I look forward to exploring more of Freida McFadden’s work.
