A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

fast-paced

5.0

I love this series and VE Schwab is one of my favourite writers but I have a little bit of beef with the ending.

(all spoilers)

I felt like White London was left too open ended – even though Holland's death was a fitting end to his arc, there was no hopeful note or even hint at a better future for white london, which made it feel like everything he did was pointless.

I also feel like Lila had far too little character development. I know her main arc was learning to work with others and to allow herself to care about people, but even when she had reached that point she was still being WAY too reckless. the second she has the option she steals Kell's powers away, which for all she knew could have hurt Rhy, and Holland has to steal them back for him.

I also don't understand the narrative choice to make Kell's powers physically painful at the end of the book (other than just a sign that war had damaged him), especially because it was only really mentioned as an afterthought, but that might just be me.

anyway victoria schwab is a god amongst men and this series was fantastic
