Salt to the Sea
by Ruta Sepetys
The one thing I really liked about this book is it told a WWII story that was new to me — about refugees trekking across the countryside trying to get to safety and a doomed ship.
Unfortunately, the 4 POV characters were very confusing at the beginning trying to keep all the characters straight, and I was completely lost about where each was and what they were doing. I kept re-reading chapters to try and figure out what was happening. The short chapters were great for momentum at the middle / end of the story, but at the beginning the constant switching made it hard to figure out what was going on.
Definitely a haunting story but the execution didn't work for me.
