Queen's Shadow
by E.K. Johnston
3.5 out of 5. On one hand, it’s an excellent character study for Padme and for her handmaidens as the former Queen of Naboo transitions into senatorial life. The character of Sabe has really moved up in my rankings of female Star Wars characters. On the other hand, my main issue was the fact that the book was light on plot, and the plot as advertised was not what we got. Sabe’s mission to Tatooine is over as quickly as it begins, and assassination attempts and potentially traitorous senators are set up, but by and large are ignored. Over 3/4 of the way through I was wondering what the ultimate point of this story would be. EK Johnston is a great author and the book reads well, but Queen’s Shadow isn’t nearly as good as her Ahsoka novel.
