Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes
5.0

This is deemed a kiddos grade book, but is a compelling read for adults as well. The entry point before The Hate You Give.

There is a sense of hopelessness and hope interweaved into the fabric of this book about the aftermath of a young black boy who is killed by a white police officer. He joins the thousands of other “ghost boys”, who left the earth too soon. As he watches his family grieve and the trial progress, he tries to understand what his purpose is and why he hasn’t passed over, we are taken back to slowly unravel the events that led to his shooting.
