What a wonderful delve back into my childhood favorite franchise!! I grew up on Disney Fairies, and to get to read a whole novel based in that universe was such a treat. This YA novel was a fantastic expansion/prequel to the main series in the movies and children’s books. Getting to see Queen Clarion’s rise to the throne as she grew into her powers was so fulfilling and expanded on her character development in a way the main series never did. I also love the side characters and how they were given full fledged backstories and personalities beyond their friendship to Clarion. The author paints Pixie Hollow with vivid and whimsical descriptions but she can also paint the conflict of the story- the Nightmares- in frightening and bone chilling descriptions. It did not feel too ‘young’ at all. There is a bit of romance in this book, but overall its clean YA fantasy and appropriate for younger readers. I really really adored this book and wouldn’t change a thing.
