The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

3.0

Agh, I was between a 3 star and 4 star review for this book and I ultimately decided on 3 stars (evidently). The good of the book: the representation and characterization of Stella and Michael! They were so likeable and I loved how distinct their narrative voices were in their respective POVs!

Okay, I have to admit the fact that I was disappointed by this book. It was so hyped as a steamy and funny read, and while I liked both Stella and Michael, I felt that there was no *spice* to the romance. They truly just liked each other a lot—where was the TENSION!? I don’t know whether the 3 stars is because of my own lukewarm esa towards the miscommunication trope and how boring I find that particular narrative or because I am not an avid contemporary romance book reader but it was how the cookie crumbled.

TLDR: I think it’s a solid romance book and if you are looking for a light read this is for you. But don’t expect a book with high stakes and intensity. Expect pining. Lots and lots of pining.
