The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore

This was another cute and sweet edition to the Dream Harbor series. It wasn’t as good as the first one, but it was definitely a lot of fun and full of cosy, bookish vibes.
Hazel was a fun character, even though she didn’t think she was very fun. I really enjoyed her character development and watching her grow into herself and explore parts of herself she didn’t know existed. Her growth in the book was really great and I loved seeing her come out of her shell, with the help of Noah. She was such a bookish character and I related so well to her because she just wanted to stay inside and read books all day!! She was a well-rounded character that had a good amount of depth and authenticity that I enjoyed. I feel she could have been developed slightly more, but I was happy with her story. Noah on the other hand, I just wasn’t a huge fan of. I don’t know why, but I felt his intentions weren’t pure and I just don’t know if they would really work together. I wasn’t attracted to him from the start and whilst I did relate to his family issues, i just wasn’t interested in him or invested in him and Hazel as a couple. He was a nice guy and really helped Hazel on a journey to discover herself, but he didn’t really have any growth. I would’ve loved the author to explore him more and really add depth and development to his background and personality.
The setting once again was my favourite part. It’s just beautiful, whimsical and cosy and you feel like you know the town and everyone in it. It makes you feel a part of something which is so nice! I loved seeing characters from the first book, particularly Logan and Jeannie and how they were living life together.
The writing was ok. It’s just nothing spectacular, but I did find it had somewhat improved from the last book. There was some nicer, more flowing sentence which captured my attention. I loved the adventure plot with the books as it added another element to the story and made the characters spend more time together. The smut was great and hot and I did enjoy it, but I almost felt like there was too much?!? I don’t know how that’s possible, but it just felt like all the characters did was have sex and I needed more than that to fully believe in the relationship between them.
Overall, I did enjoy my time reading this book, but felt like there were parts that could definitely have been improved and explored further. I still can’t wait to continue the series because I’m holding out for Mac and Annie’s story!!
