Unmasked: My Life Solving America's Cold Cases by Paul Holes

5.0

Hi, my name is Babs and I'm a True Crime junkie.

There, I said it.

This book was so interesting to read. There is tragedy every day, all over! We see the headlines, the basics, the names and the sadness, we don't get the behind the scenes....the details that show countless people losing family moments, meals and sleep to solve these cases. They truly care about victims.

Paul Holes gives us exactly that. A glimpse into the career of one man as he obsesses his way from case to case. Solving mysteries that had sat cold for years his work helps put the Golden State Killer in prison. It absolutely fascinated me to dive into what it takes to catch a serial killer.

Now, Criminal Minds is my favorite show, but I make no mistakes in thinking the real life hunts measure up in comparison. It's glamorized for television but in real life, it's hard, it's messy, it's heartbreaking!!!

Paul Holes gets very personal and is completely honest about the cases and the victims and does it in a respectful way. This book is as raw as it gets with a memoir and shows you the bones of it all and just what it can do to the person hunting the killer.

Thank you so much to Celadon Books and Paul Holes for the gifted copy!
