The Wedding Year by Susan DiPlacido
5.0
The wait is over and it's great to be back in the world of DiPlacido's crazy characters!
We've seen these various characters before in the six previous novels, but here they all come together for one wild ride. But the novel stands alone, you don't need to have read the previous ones—but why haven't you? DiPlacido fills in the back story of the characters naturally, telling the reader what needs to be known without it coming across as an info dump (actually, it makes you want to go back and read the books you missed).
One thing I've always loved about DiPlacido's fiction is how she brings you completely into the world of the characters: the setting, the in-jokes, the family dynamics. As a reader, you feel part of it all. Here, the environment is a family-owned Las Vegas casino (acquired in the novel House Money). Marina and Miguel are the main characters, and during their twenty-year relationship, they still haven't gotten around to tying the knot. Of course, the family wants to throw a large wedding for them. But what are they waiting for already?
Though secretly they have decided they want to marry after all, but don't really want all the fuss that would entail. Thus begins their year of eloping...and once they've started, they can't stop!
A fun ride.
