Blood Slumber๐ค, a novella, is set in Vela Roth's Blood Grace Universe - a Vampiric Magical world of Hespirines (the beings who are vampiric) and the human counterparts some of whom yield their own magic (mages). This story reverses the roles of Sleeping Beauty. Celandine plays our Princess who is definitely not sleeping and Troi is our sleeping cutie, a Prince become Hesparine who has been trapped in a hundred year long slumber.
Vela has taken these two characters and her side characters and given them so much life in a novella. I adored watching the Enemies (in this case, Pavo vs. Taurus) become lovers. We find out just how cruel the orders can be to the less dedicated members of their order. Troi, in preparation for their big plot, becomes more and more enamored with Celandine as he dances with her. They both open up about their past and learn a great deal about what they knew was wrong. But they both have vendettes to carry out. Will they get lost in their individual vendettas or see it through together?
