As usual, Talia Hibbert does an amazing job of creating lovable, well-rounded characters. In this story, in particular, I was struck by the male protagonist, Zafir, and the attention given to a) his emotional intelligence, b) his commitment to taking mental health seriously, and c) his confidence that none of those things are a threat to his masculinity. I always love when a cisgender man is written with an abundance of tenderness.

Danika’s struggle with feeling undeserving of love because she doesn’t fit into the mold that popular culture has taught her is required for successful relationships, is compelling as well.
