White Fang by Jack London

It's an interesting book because it is really well written but the plot and author's beliefs in the second half are...not enjoyable.

The wolf chase and the growing up scenes are amazing and really engaging. But then when humans are getting added to the mix it gets a bit weird. London puts so much emphasis on violence and I wonder why - just for the shock value? The plot? The fact that its a wolf and thats what theyre known for?

His descriptions of humans are also not great. From the period-typical racism of calling white people 'more superior' over Natives, to basically excusing people's bad behaviour on the basis that their 'clay' has been moulded by nature and nurture and now they have no choice but to ask as it is in their nature.
