Can I be honest in how annoying I found Marmee? If she didn't force the girls to give everything they had to the german family
they'd still have Beth! Justice for Beth - I cried when she passed away.

Anyway, the author's perspective on domestic life and womanhood might seem pretty antiquated to us now, but when I try to place myself as a reader around the time of publication, I'm sure it was a somewhat groundbreaking but sure step toward modern feminism. At first, I felt betrayed and didn't want to continue reading when I saw a spoiler that
Laurie ends up with Amy
but I'm glad I kept reading to see how it actually played out. I also appreciate Jo's tomboy representation! I think readers now might read into her character as potentially being trans, but I think it's nice to just let her be a tomboy, which I can imagine was pretty groundbreaking at the time.
