Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

5.0

2017 review:
This is still one of my favorite books but I think I wasn't in the best mood to read it this time. In the beginning; yes. But the story lost me at some point and it was hard to finish.
Still love it though.

2016 review:
"I would always rather be happy than dignified" - how true, and at the same time, what an unusual thing to say for a Victiorian heroine. Jane Eyre is a truly modern character and while she is not completely independent of men, her love to Mr. Rochester is handled in a surprising way. It's a rather universal story of love that has little to do with the setting - although of course, the time and place add to the charm of the book (much like in Charlotte's sister's Wuthering Heights). While some of Jane's choices left me sad and longing for a different option, I always understood her train of thought and I think she chose the best ways at all times.
An instant favorite - and its charmed was by no means lessened by my having watched the phenomenal 2011 cinematic adaptation already.
