The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
3.0

This was a strange book for me. The story follows Ana, the wife of Jesus. But anything that points to Jesus' divinity is taken out of the narrative. If Ana had been married to any Jew it would hardly have changed the story at all. Which, I guess is fine but why bother imagining her married to Jesus if you are going to skirt around what marked him as special? The story is slow at points. Ana is not super likable but the people that surround her are. The part at the end with all the women together following Jesus to his crucifixion was incredibly powerful for me. Also, I liked the way Judas was written.
