It draws you in with an intriguing question for a title, and then answers that question in the opening chapter. Why are the vibes at this house so rancid? It's because of the spooky fungus. The fact that it's so easy to figure out whats going on would be fine if the characters were more interesting but unfortunately most of them didn't really do it for me. I found the world building to be the most interesting part with a culture in which soldiers give up their genders when they swear an oath, and the first inclusion of Neo-pronouns I've read in book which is super cool. I might read the second one some other time.
