A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Oh wow, I absolutely LOVED this! Even though this book has a bit less action than FBAA, and mostly provides development into the world, characters and romance, I do prefer this over the first book. I feel like I understand the world much better, and the book made me so invested in the romance! Poppy’s thoughts were reflected as greatly as in FBAA, and the book just had me fully hooked from the start. I could tell that this was mostly a bridging book setting up the events for the next one, but it provided so much depth, and it was intriguing to see the characters’ complexity and more of the already interesting world.
The cast of characters is great. Despite annoying me the slightest bit in the beginning, Poppy was as amazing as before, and I truly got to see the character I loved from the first book: the Poppy who would do anything to fight for what she thinks is right. Even though I was already intrigued by Hawke in From Blood and Ash, my love for him only grew in this one. I did still have some issues with him, but overall I really liked seeing his dynamic with Poppy, as well as his friendship with Kieran. Kieran unexpectedly became one of the highlights of this book for me: not only did he bring in so much humour, he also provided us with a lot of the world building, and I liked seeing him bond with Poppy. I hope we will also get to see more of Jasper and Netta in the sequel.
The ending was so wild! I have like a dozen questions at this point so the sequel can’t come soon enough! I’m utterly curious to see how the events at the end of this book will be followed up on. I feel like there is still so much to discover of this intriguing world!
