Hellbent: A Road Trip, Enemies to Lovers, Fling to Forever, Small-Town Mechanic Romance by Maggie Maren, Maggie Maren

5.0

This is book 3 in the Pine Bluff series, my first book from this author. Can be read as a standalone, but it may mean, like me, when you read about the amazing side characters in this book, you will want to read them all.

Maisie is in Pine Bluff for the wedding of her BFF, who is practically the sister she doesn't have. She met Dane at their engagement party several months prior, and he left a sour taste in her mouth (excuse the pun, certainly not intended....lol). Maisie comes from a real place of hurt, and has never felt good enough, whether that be from her Mum or her ex husband, so when I say she laughs off those personal questions, or runs when the heat gets to her, thats exactly what she does. Dane has experienced is own level of hurt, so whether by reputation or design, he allows what the small town says about him to define who is, never correcting. He has a deeper secret that few know about, something which he doesn't want to have others know, well, for right now.

After miscommunication and confusion around the events from the engagement party, Dane and Maisie swirl around their feelings, putting themselves last to ensure their mutual best friends have the wedding celebrations they deserve. A part I love most is all the signs there that says that these two are destined, along with crystals, tarot cards and fortunes found, this book had it all. There was darkness to survive, that threatened their very existence but what a book. If you are hellbent on one hell of a read, it's right here. Deserves more than 5 stars, devoured it quickly because I could not put it down.
