The Overstory by Richard Powers

Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.

I want to like this book, I want to love it because I’ve been invested in climate change matters and the people who fight it. But I cannot because as much as the writing is decent, about halfway in and I’m still not engaged or even interested to find out more. The first few chapters introducing the characters were interesting but because there were so many, I forgot who is what and who did what and who has what story. Then the long chapters after that trying to tie them all together…I can’t. I feel like the character stories should be woven into the main narrative and that’ll help a lot. I’m not interested in reading more and will likely not pick this book up again. Aside from all this, this book also really contributes to my eco-anxiety. It’s so full of hopelessness and sadness that I don’t think I can continue without it affecting me negatively.
