After absolutely loving the first one, I had high hopes for this book that left me disappointed. Despite focusing more on the plot, I feel like the pacing got lost around the middle section and everything seemed to slow down and drag on. Whereas in DR I couldn’t put the book down, I felt very disengaged while reading RV. I feel like the main focus shifted from Iris and Roman to the war but Dacre still felt a bit one dimensional. I would have liked to see more of his motivations and an actual battle with Enva. The writing was still beautiful as always, but it’s a shame that the story itself fell a bit sideways.
