It is a good book. But I didn't like it as much as the three Hunger Games books, mainly because I find the main character so unlikable. As a reader, you know from the get go that he is cruel. If you have read the other books, you know that as the president he is cruel. So there is no character development in that. I guess this book seemed to have lower stakes for Snow because we know he survives.
The lovestory didn't really work for me. Yes, they were going through trauma more or less together. Yes, they were a little flirty before the games. But that's not "I love you", is it? I guess from Coriolanus state of mind, we can assume that he deceived himself into believing them to be in love. But what about Lucy Gray? Did she love him? Who did she think he was that she loved him? Or did she love him despite? Or didn't she? There is very little evidence to her feelings, so it doesn't feel like a loving relationship at all.
