I'm not sure that The Dacians can really exist as a separate series from the original IAD -- this book intersects and overlaps so heavily with both Lothaire and Dark Skye I don't know how you could claim they are outside that continuity.
Either way, I greatly enjoyed Trehan and Bettina. The tournament, while fundamentally a strange set-up -- why would Raum allow his kingdom to potentially come under the rule of hostile forces AND why would either Raum or Morgana be willing to sacrifice Bettina's future to be tied to a hostile force? -- provides a driving plot, while also setting up the elements for several future books. I also enjoyed the deeper insight into the Daciano family, seen briefly in Lothaire.
