The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde
5.0
What an absolutely delightful romantasy! K.A. Linde delivers a spellbinding tale in The Wren in the Holly Library, seamlessly blending fantasy, romance and Celtic mythologyagainst the backdrop of an alternate New York City where humans and monsters coexist.
Kierse, a skilled street thief with a sharp mind and a complex past, immediately captures our attention with her resourcefulness and the vulnerability she tries so hard to hide. Her encounter with Graves, the brooding and dangerous monster tied to his enchanting, otherworldly library, form the emotional core of this romantasy and oooh the chemistry sure is SIZZLING and the slow-burn????!!! *chef's kiss*
Linde demonstrates a masterful command of pacing, unraveling the story with a careful balance of revelation and suspense. The alternate New York City she envisions is richly textured, combining the recognizable with the otherworldly to create a setting that is immersive and distinct.
For fans of spice, there’s a touch of it here, but it’s the smoldering chemistry and the push-and-pull between Kierse and Graves that makes the romance so satisfying. Unlike many romantasies, the romance in The Wren in the Holly Library feels like an organic part of the story rather than an added flourish, making it all the more rewarding.
This story has all the makings of a fantasy that could gain even more recognition as the side characters' stories are brought to light. Linde has a unique talent for creating a cast where every secondary character feels just as captivating as the leads. It’s one of those rare books where you find yourself equally invested in everyone’s journey, and the world feels richer for it.
