Batgirl, Volume 1: Batgirl of Burnside
by Brenden Fletcher, Irene Koh, Babs Tarr, Cameron Stewart
The art in this run is fantastic. I like the new costume and the integration of social media and other modern trends. It won't age very well, but that's okay. It all adds up to a fun romp through Gotham city with characters and stories that will resonate well with a young adult audience. I liked it better as I was reading it than I do as I'm reviewing it, but I think that's mostly because the end of the story arc was a bit too unbelievable for me. The villains were kind of goofy and didn't seem like they should present much of a challenge, but I liked the conflict and resolution between Batgirl and her friends. Batgirl herself can be bratty, but that character development goes with the story arc. This is a fun look at a young, hip Batgirl, but I also want to dive into Simone's more mature portrayal.
