Spinoff series are always a gamble. I absolutely love the main series this spins from, Jane Yellowrock. Soulwood takes place in that same universe but centers on the character, Nell Ingram, whom Jane encounters on one of her adventures. Things start off kind of slow and drawn out, a bit of action happens early with meeting PsyLed agent Rick LaFleur and then the attack on her house, but then it's back to molasses pace. Wasn't til the late hundreds almost pg two hundred that I stared gaining tractor and feeling somewhat invested enough in the characters to really jump into the story. Actually rating 2.5, rounded up due to liking the general premise and potential the series has, hoping the second book hits better.
