Both my wife and I enjoyed this book. We agree that it is a solid 4 star book. It is #4 in the series and we have previously read the 1st 3. This book can be read as a stand alone, but there are references to events in the previous books.
This book has two separate plots that play out simultaneously. There is a murder in Nelson, British Columbia. Constable Ames is left to solve the murder on his own, when Inspector Darling is called back to England because of an incident during WWII.
The second plot has to do with Inspector Darling, arrested in England, charged with a murder that he did not commit. Lane Winslow, in love with Darling, and ex British Intelligence agent, goes to England to help clear him. A character from book 1 makes a reappearance.

Both plots are resolved with a satisfactory ending. There are several twists and turns in the plot. My wife and I recommend this book to Louise Penny fans.
The author does like to have her characters use obscure British words, i.e., "It should be a doddle."
Usually they can be understood when read in context, but I did have consult a dictionary when reading book 1.
