Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells

Murderbot, don't you know that the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

Trying to keep your own cover while lying is hard enough. Doing it while hacking systems to hide yourself and track hostiles is harder. And then coming face to face with the people you've decided to protect and have been lying to? Well, let's say it wasn't a great cycle for Murderbot/Rin.

Still the most human non-human character since Andrew of "The Bicentennial Man" fame, and somehow more likable.
